Teams in Zambia
Father
Francesco Perico, who was a Teams chaplain in Mangochi, Malawi,
has received official approval to start Teams in his new parish
just across the border in Zambia. Not content with one team,
there are three teams currently in pilot, all of which Fr Perico
serves as chaplain.
The
meeting to officially launch Equipes Notre Dame (Teams) in Zambia is
scheduled for the 17th to 19th of June and it is hoped that the
number of teams may be up to between five and eight. Fr Perico
says that the local Bishop and the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator
also hope to attend.
Fr
Ignatio Bokosi is travelling to Zambia together with some
couples from Malawi to witness the event and to support the new
teams. The new teams are in Kalichero in the diocese of Chipata,
which is the north-east of Zambia, near the border with Malawi.
There is a long-standing link between the diocese of Chipata and
that of Zomba Malawi. Seminarians from Chipata come to the major
seminary in Zomba. They share a common language, Chichewa.
Fr
Perico is a
Montfort missionary
as is Fr Callisto Baluwa, the
first Teams chaplain in Malawi and also the bishops of Mangochi
and Zomba.
