After reading the first section of part 1 of the Pope's encyclical entitled: "A problem of language", we suggest you answer the following two questions from your own experience:

In what ways do the following forms of love differ from each other? What motivates them?

• Love of country

• Love of job, hobby, sport, gardening, travel, music, art etc.

• Love of friends, colleagues, neighbours etc.

• Love of husband and wife.

• Love of parents for their children.

• Love of children for their parents.

• Love between siblings and other relatives.

In what ways do the following forms of love differ from each other and from the above? What motivates them?

• Love of God.

• Caring for the poor, the disabled, the sick, the lonely, the elderly etc. (see Mt 25:31-46)
